The Faculty of Physician Associates Conduct Committee calls for qualified PAs to get involved

The Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA) Professional Standards Committee (PSC) sets the professional standards for qualified members of the FPA. This includes standards of professional competence and standards of conduct. The PSC oversees the arrangements for the management of eligibility for membership of the physician associate (PA) Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR) until such time that statutory regulation is in place for PAs.

The PSC comprises 11 members who represent the FPA Board, qualified FPA members, a patient representative a regulated health professional, a Higher Education Institution representative and a co-optee where necessary. On occasion when concern regarding an FPA member is raised, members of the Conduct Committee independently investigate alleged breaches of discipline and determine the outcome and recommend potential sanctions.

The PSC is now at a stage where they require additional qualified FPA members to be able to be called upon should a conduct committee need to be established. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified PAs to gain experience and make a difference in the profession. Those interested in submitting an expression of interest should:

  • have a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience
  • be a member of the FPA
  • be able to demonstrate previous experience of sitting on a committee, performance review panel, or similar. (Please note while this is not essential, we encourage members to display relevant experience).

Expressions of interest should include a cover letter and a CV and be emailed to [email protected] by Sunday 27 November.
