Membership

There are three membership categories within the faculty of physician associates:

Physician associate student membership

Physician associate membership

Friend of the faculty membership

Physician associate student membership

If you are beginning your career as a physician associate (PA) and currently undertaking the PA course at university, physician associate student membership could be for you.

To apply for student membership, please complete membership application form part 1 and return to fpa@rcplondon.ac.uk

 

Eligibility

A physician associate student member is an individual who is enrolled in an approved physician associate program, or a program of education established in the UK or other country to produce a practitioner with comparable competencies, duties, and responsibilities of the American Physician Associate, provided that the training program includes physician and physician associate instructors, preceptors and/or mentors, and trains in the medical model.

For just £1 per month, you will have access to a wide range of benefits, including:

  • discounts on RCP conferences, workshops and events, including the annual Faculty of Physician Associates conference

Physician associate membership

As a qualified physician associate (PA) from a recognised UK physician associate programme or an accredited American PA programme, PA membership could be for you.

To apply for full physician associate membership, please complete both membership application form part 1 and membership application form part 2 and return to fpa@rcplondon.ac.uk

Please send your applications and supporting documentation as pdf files and when possible merged into one file.

Please note applications may take up to two-three weeks to process and approve. If you require membership for employment purposes please allow enough time when submitting your application.  

 

Eligibility

A physician associate member is a physician associate who is a graduate of nationally recognised physician associate program including those accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Associate (ARCPA) or its successor agency, or by one of its predecessor agencies [Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)], or who has passed the Physician Associate National Certifying examination (PANCE) administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Associates (NCCPA) or the British equivalents to any of those above. To maintain their membership status, members must satisfy such continued professional development as prescribed by the faculty of physician associates. 

 

Member benefits

Members of the faulty of physician associates benefit from a number of services specifically tailored to your needs as a PA. These include support in your continuing education, career development and increased opportunities to be involved in the development of the profession.

For £200 per annum, physician associate membership offers a wide range of benefits including:

  • inclusion on the managed voluntary register
  • free access to the RCP CPD diary
  • subscriptions to RCP publications, such as Clinical Medicine and Commentary
  • discounts to a range of RCP conferences, workshops and events, including the annual Faculty of Physician Associates conference
  • access to RCP Library resources, and an Athens account
  • regular communications through the president's bulletin and faculty member emails
  • use of the RCP building for individual study
  • plus much more!

 

Friend of the faculty membership

Eligibility

The friend of the faculty membership is for individuals who are not qualified PAs but have contributed to or are involved in the development of the physician associate profession.
This could include physician associate educators or course leaders/directors, or active physician associate supervisors, or a member of a faculty of physician associates sub-committee.

To apply for friend of the faculty membership, please complete the friend of the faculty membership application form and return to fpa@rcplondon.ac.uk. If you wish to set up a direct debit, please also complete the direct debit mandate.

 

Member benefits

Friend of the faculty members pay £50 per annum, which includes:

  • faculty of physician associate emails to keep you up to date with developments of the profession and the faculty
  • opportunities to attend events to support and contribute to the development of the profession
  • discounts to RCP events and conferences
  • online access and discounts to a range of publications, resources and guidance, including the RCP toolkits
  • plus much more!
